Updates and Releases from TVF
…srsly?
OK, so I got an email from the datacenter saying that the server was setup. So I logged into SSH and DirectAdmin and took around.
The didn’t set it up like I told them too. I asked them SPECIFICALLY to set it up with the latest version of CentOS x86_64 (64-Bit). So what do they install? CentOS 5.2 i686 with an old kernel. Translation: An older version of CentOS 32-Bit. The exact OPPOSITE of what I asked for.
So I emailed them AGAIN and said “Please install CentOS 5.3 x86_64, available here: http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/5/isos/x86_64/ ” and hopefully they’ll get their foots out of their mouths tonight and set everything up.
Crossing fingers…
Anyways, the site WILL be faster when everything’s up. Why? Well, the server’s four-times faster! Let’s compare:
- CPU
Old Server: 3.0Ghz Pentium-D Dual-Core
New Server: 2.4Ghz Intel Core2Quad - RAM
Old Server: 2GB
New Server: 8GB - Hard Drive
Old Server:250 GB
New Server: 500 GB - OS
Old Server: CentOS 5.2 x86_64
New Server: CentOS 5.3 x86_64 - Location
Old Server: Pennsylvania, USA
New Server: Netherlands
And the best part? The new server’s only about $10 more per month.

@jokerman: We needed a more powerful server desperately, and this one is a friggin’ bargain compared to our old one. 4x the RAM, 3x the CPU power, and 2x the hard drive space.

@rich: Probably six hours after the datacenter gets the server up and running. I’ll be installing a couple of standard programs (nano, htop, etc.) and check for upgrades (MySQL, kernel, Apache2, PHP, etc.).
Upgrading is going to be difficult, as DirectAdmin doesn’t have EasyApache (the cPanel module that updates Apache2).

Idc if it takes time tbh, if its for the better of the server then I’m with you 110%, I know Mac is doing his best, so thanks Mac for taking the time for fix the problems asap. =]

@Leungwk01: Actually, we’re not too badly in debt. We don’t owe anything to the new datacenter (just NEXT month’s bill) and we owe only three more months of payments to the old datacenter (This month, December, and November) and that’s it. I’ll update the ChipIn widget on the site once I get it up.
Remember, clicking the ads on HERE does help ALL of TVF! Same for the arcade!

NightN – They are probably hosting warez on their server. The Viper Files isn’t going to do that, unless that thing for VIPs…I don’t know actually…
And Mac, seriously dude, this skin is killing my eyes. Please change it to something lighter, visiting here is like hell.

@Emperor – you can go to mac’s twiter page for updates also that may help prevent your eyes being and @rich it should be up tomorrow as mac has to wait for the datacenter to finish and him to get home from work so he can do what he has to do for the site. and also the website name will not change but here is the web addy for you when it does go up http://www.theviperfiles.com/

Whats the difference? 3.0Ghz seems better, except for the difference of the type of processor

First of all, everyone needs to calm down. There is nothing to worry about. The server WILL be up today. No more questions bout when will it be up. I hope this clears the confusion. And yes, a 2.4Ghz Intel Core2Quad is better than a 3.0Ghz Pentium-D Dual-Core.
Now lets all behave and wait for the site to come back.

Just a basic summary of what has happen in these last few days.
1. Mac purchased Cpanel since he doesn’t like using Directadmin
2. We need to wait for the data center to re-install the OS for Cpanel to work
3. Click on ads to help support TVF.
If all is going as planned TVF should be online within the next few days!
