Reminder :: TVF & AV’s
Aug 28th
Sometimes if you can’t access TVF and you can access any other website, you might think; oh TVF is down. But that might not be the case.
Some antiviruses, including malwarebytes active protection (paid/cracked version, free one is just scanned) block access to TVF.
To troubleshoot try disabling, adding a whitelist to theviperfiles.com (94.228.219.195), or just uninstalling that AV and getting something else (eset smart security is pretty nice).
Just thought I would let everyone know, because I have helped a few people in the past who couldn’t access TVF and their AV was to blame.
Errors today — w/ Edit
May 16th
I was away this weekend for my cousin, who is one of my best friends, graduation party.. I was still on the forum to respond to PM’s and fix VIP accounts though
This morning after I got home I got an email from our datacenter.. Here it is:
Today I had received an SMS about your server. It was offline so I tried to reboot but I saw many errors during the boot. I saw your filesystem was corrupt but not all only the files for Linux. This is very strange because other clients have no problems with this. I have taken your files in de public_html directory and your database. And I have installed a new VPS with cPanel. I have restored the backups but there are problems with your forum software. Maybe you can look into this?
So after that I tried to fix it, but didn’t have enough time b/c I had to leave for my soccer game (lol soccer when super exhausted from partying sucks) .. But after I got home I reuploaded a few ‘corrupted’ files, updated the DB info, fixed permissions, double checked stuff, installed stuff, and wallah we are back online
Thanks for the patience today guys and I apologize.. This wasn’t really anyones fault I am not sure 100% what happened. But good thing for backups
the DB was taken by the provider right when the vps went down so nothing was lost.. Good thing I had the file backup from Friday morning b/c that helped a lot in getting things back and running
Cheers everyone!

And right as I was about to post this on the forum and hit the hay for the night what do you know? IPS Driver error when posting this and trying to view any post. The biggest table (HUGE..), the posts table had crashed for some reason.
I tried the standard repair but 3 hours later and no go I figured that just wasn’t in the works for working.
I googled some random sh*t since I saw that the TMP directories were 100% full.. Limiting the repair since the table was so big.. I switched the TMP directory to a directory that wasn’t a partition, just on the standard drive on the vps.. Tried the repair again And about 5-10 minutes later the repair was successful!
Sweet deal right? I am sorry for the downtime guys I really am there wasn’t a whole lot I could do though :/ .. Remember everyone to check the BLOG and my TWITTER for information regarding downtime..
Thanks for the support everyone. — Viper3773 & Staff
Weekend
Apr 30th
This morning I took a backup so we are good for the weekend. I think it will be standard now to take a backup every friday morning right before the weekend.
I rebooted the server as well so that should be good as well.
I hope everyone has a good weekend as I plan on having a great one myself
— Regards!
Update
Apr 23rd
Well we were up all late-night, and all day day today, So that is a plus.
The server should be faster since we have double the memory we had before.
So let’s hope this works out.
Also, please become a follower of @viper3773 on twitter! You can read my tweets in the right side of the blog, there is a plugin that will display them.. It is much easier for me to send out a quick tweet than a blog post. Also I can update the twitter anywhere via my mobile phone and a text to the twitter service. Thanks
On twitter just small stuff are tweeted about. Major stuff will always be on the blog.

So right now I’ve got the server up and running with cPanel on it. The problem is, there’s not much I can do.
Yes, I have backups from last week, but I REALLY need the latest backups from our old datacenter, and those f*ckers haven’t replied to me in several days. Tomorrow I’m going to be calling them during my lunch break at work or something. Beg to them to let me access the files…
Anyways, I’m down to $260 in my personal bank account, seeing as how I had to spend over $400 of my personal savings to pay for the server’s cPanel license. Also, I have to go buy new pants tomorrow between my classes, since all of my jeans (all four of them) have holes in the crotch.
Anywho, here’s my to-do list for the next couple of days:
-Beg from Burst (our old datacenter)
-Get backups
-Restore TVF
-Restore TVF SQL Database
-Restore all other sites
-Restore email accounts on server
-Tweak /etc/my.cnf file for new server.
-Tweak /etc/csf/csf.*
-Sleep
-Eat
-Get paid
-Work 40+ hours/week
-Get paid just above minimum wage
-Be abused by customers
-Be abused by PMS’ing (no offense to women) bosses
-Get oil change
-Buy pants
-Buy work shirts
-Email current datacenter and see about getting a 4th IP address
-Make girlfriend happy
-Get ACE to read this and Twitter before asking me stupid questions
-42.
…srsly?

OK, so I got an email from the datacenter saying that the server was setup. So I logged into SSH and DirectAdmin and took around.
The didn’t set it up like I told them too. I asked them SPECIFICALLY to set it up with the latest version of CentOS x86_64 (64-Bit). So what do they install? CentOS 5.2 i686 with an old kernel. Translation: An older version of CentOS 32-Bit. The exact OPPOSITE of what I asked for.
So I emailed them AGAIN and said “Please install CentOS 5.3 x86_64, available here: http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/5/isos/x86_64/ ” and hopefully they’ll get their foots out of their mouths tonight and set everything up.
Crossing fingers…
Anyways, the site WILL be faster when everything’s up. Why? Well, the server’s four-times faster! Let’s compare:
- CPU
Old Server: 3.0Ghz Pentium-D Dual-Core
New Server: 2.4Ghz Intel Core2Quad - RAM
Old Server: 2GB
New Server: 8GB - Hard Drive
Old Server:250 GB
New Server: 500 GB - OS
Old Server: CentOS 5.2 x86_64
New Server: CentOS 5.3 x86_64 - Location
Old Server: Pennsylvania, USA
New Server: Netherlands
And the best part? The new server’s only about $10 more per month.
Ok?

Ouch!
Apr 9th
Alright, so after emailing back and forth with our datacenter, they’ve narrowed down our downtime to two main causes:
1) The CPU was overheating. Yup, even after three new hardware sets, the CPU kept overheating, and now there’s a new heatsink and cooling fan on it.
2) We were running out of swap space. My guess? MySQL was over-doing it. So now I have to figure out how to optimize the server’s memory usage and possibly get more RAM for it. Owwies!
Aaaand I’m going to be yelling at ACE to fix the Ads on here and I’m probably going to have to change the ads on the forum back to AdBrite since AdSense isn’t working right.
