Sorry for the downtime folks.
I gave the server a reboot and we are back in busniess. Site might be running a little slow for a bit. Please bare with us. Hope we dont run in to any other problems for the rest of the night.

Down but not our fault!
Mar 20th
Alright, so yes, the server is unreachable, but it’s not our fault, honest!
Our server’s remote reboot (really just a web interface for its APC UPS, or APC-brand Uninterrupted Power Supply, aka battery backup) IP, which is on a different subnet, I might add, is unresponsive, and our datacenter’s main website is unresponsive, too.
Fortunately, their support site isn’t down, so I’ve put in a ticket letting them know, and hopefully they’ll get things working soon.
Up!
Mar 18th
Woohoo! 25 hours of uptime with virtually no problems! A few database errors here and there (nothing a few clicks in phpMyAdmin can’t fix) and had to tweak mod_security to be compatible with vBulletin, but other than that everything seems to be working OK!
Our backup scripts are working beautifully, and the only thing I don’t have running right now is the old firewall. Still holding off for a bit on that one. Also, once I get some issues with our bank and PayPal fixed, I’ll be talking with IPS (the manufacturer of our forum’s software) to try and figure out why the page-load times on the forum indexes (topic lists) are so long.
If you run into a Database error, PHP error, or really long load-times somewhere other than the forum indexes, please comment here and tell me exactly WHEN you got the error, and what page you were on, and I’ll look into it.
Restored!
Mar 17th
Everyone who I had to restore has been restored (ACE, you need to get in touch with me on MSN…)
Opening up the forums as soon as the server reboots!
da news
Mar 17th
OK, so I got mod_security and mod_evasive installed into Apache (after having to install over a dozen dependencies and configure the mod_security config files… Ugh).
Just a little more fine-tweaking, then I’ll start restoring users (ando, ace, viper377, myself, joephus, doylcean, gamerzfo, etc.)
Once that’s done, TVF will be open. Blah! *dance*
mod_security
Mar 17th
Alright, TVF’s database has been uploaded and restored.
TVF is *working*. I haven’t opened it up yet because I have to install mod_security 2.5, and of course, a bunch of lib’s for it are missing from the OS install (pcre, apr, apr-util, apr-iconv, etc.).
Bear with me here, folks. I’ll have TVF up and running tonight, and all the other sites that were on the server, too!
Newsflash!
Mar 17th
Alright, so the reinstall is DONE, right now I’m rebuilding Apache and PHP to the newest and most secure versions, uploading TVF’s database, and getting all of the server’s settings in order.
So.. Yeah
Mar 17th
So as mac said i had a rough day yesterday (mainly because i was 3/4 sick..) well today i am 4/4 sick and I have stayed home from school because of it (damn hottub..) (the one day i skip school i cant do stuff on TVF! damn.. ) anyways..
It looks like the datacenter has successfully reinstalled the OS.. If you visit theviperfiles.com, you will see a Success! page.
I have informed mac about this and he will set everything back up when he returns home ( ETA: 1-2hrs to return home, 1-2 hrs to get TVF up and running )
So theres your update. For those checking the blog while at work or school, Roflcopter.
More bad news I’m afraid!

We’re still having problems with the server and unfortunately it was decided to do a complete reinstall of the server. Having tried everything else we were hoping not to have to do this but we have little alternative.
What does this mean. In noob terms it means doing a full backup of the site as it is. Clearing everything off the server and reinstalling everything from scratch. Then uploading the saved backup of the site. This will probably take a while so we will keep you informed of the different stages were at.
Currently were at stage one which is backing up the existing site.
Once again we’d like to thank you for your patients and sticking with us through this period. All VIP’s will have their accounts extended for the duration of this rebuild.
I’d also like to thank Dr Mac for all his hard work he has done and is doing in trying to fix this problem. I can’t imagine the headache it’s causing him.
Anyone with any problems can leave a comment and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Still Down
Mar 16th
From the looks of things the server is still down as you may all know that. Mac is really working hard on trying to fix the server as well as the forum. We are happy that you guys are sticking with us through this.
I just want everyone to know that when this is all set and done and the site is back to normal and we dont have any server problems, I would like you to thank mac for all that he has done for the site and the server. He does all this because he cares and he wants everyone to enjoy the site. He has put it alot of man hours and were sure there will be hours more to come. So if you see him around please thank him for it. A little donation to him would go a long way.
